Making Teeth Fun!

At Cambridge Family Smiles, we are dedicated to offering our young patients the personalized, gentle care that they deserve, while maintaining the natural beauty of their smiles. We take the time to make kids comfortable so there is less fear of the dentist over time.

The First Visit

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that a child visit the dentist within six months after the first tooth erupts or by the age of one, whichever occurs first.

The first dental visit is usually short and easy. The dentist will check your child’s existing teeth for decay, take a look at the bite, and look for any potential problems in your child’s mouth. If necessary, we will clean your child’s teeth and determine if there is a need for fluoride. We will also talk to you about basics for children’s oral health, discuss dental developmental issues and answer any questions you may have.

Kids’ Complete Checkups

Regular dental exams are an important part of preventive care for children. As with adults, we recommend kids visit the dentist every six months for an exam and cleaning.

During the exam, the dentist or hygienist will clean their teeth and evaluate your child’s risk of cavities. If necessary, the exam may include X-rays. The dentist or hygienist may also discuss diet and oral hygiene and educate you and your child on proper brushing and flossing.
Finally, the exam may include sealants or fluoride treatments as recommended by the dentist.

Preventive Treatments

Our goal is to keep your child’s teeth strong and healthy for a lifetime. In order to achieve this, we recommend dental sealants and fluoride treatments for our pediatric patients. Our mission is to provide high-quality individualized oral care for children in a fun and comfortable, child-friendly environment to create a positive dental experience.

Dental Sealants

While brushing and flossing are effective in removing food and plaque from your child’s teeth, it is difficult to get into the grooves and fissures on the back teeth (molars). Dental Sealants are a thin plastic coating painted onto the chewing surfaces of these teeth in order to smooth them out and protect them from decay. Applying sealants is fast, simple and painless.

is a natural element that is found in water and some foods. Fluoride helps to prevent tooth decay and speeds up the process in which tooth enamel is built back up. Along with dental sealants, fluoride treatments are an extremely effective way to prevent tooth decay in children. Fluoride makes teeth less vulnerable to acid attacks caused by plaque, bacteria, and sugar; and can also reverse very early decay in some cases. Professional fluoride treatments can be applied as a gel, foam, or varnish. These treatments contain a much higher level of fluoride than the amount found in toothpaste and mouth rinses.
